Use Cases

Use cases are conducted on the logical path a user takes to complete a task. They could be simple email forms, to extensive online ordering. Use cases can or should be conducted on all of the potenial tasks on your site. When picking your particpants, let them help you pick the task they would like to test. Participants can be the designers of the site, potential users, or both.

When begining the study, have each case clearly defined, and then compare the results of the participants. Have them tell you what they are thinking while the performing each step, and listen for alternate options, like “I wish it did this instead.” Have them perform as many defined cases as they feel comfortable.
