I believe that one of the best things you can do to improve the usability of a website is by being consistent. Consistency can be found in a variety of places: vocabulary, typography, colors, templates, headings, and the list goes on and on. For whatever you do once, their should be an established method so that it is easy to do again in the same consistent format.

Defining the Way

A great way to ensure your site is easy to use  is to take into consideration what other sites are doing, and mimic those. Let consistency spread over many sites, not just one. It’s beneficial for your site, and it’s beneficial for the end users.

By using BWI’s Webmaster Wiki we can hopefully find or define those common methods. This wiki is currently a blank slate, new today, so it will need a lot of your help. Even defining whether to use  “website” or “web site” is still up for grabs, though on this site it’s website.

If you are passionate about a certain methods or practices to doing things online please help us out, and add your methods to this wiki today.
