At first appearance this poll may not seem like a poll that is relevant to having a great website, but really, it is. This is all about having a plan, and as many of us know Twitter did not have a business model when they developed the site. I know they have dreams of being the first site to have a billion users, and I am sure they have high hopes of surpassing Google or Facebook, but I don’t see it. In fact, I predict that they will never break 50 million unique users a month.

Here is the poll: Do you think Twitter will ever have more than 50 million unique visitors in one month?

Forget search. I’m talking traffic. With all the hype about Twitter I believe some are getting a little unrealistic about it. Twitter search better than Google? Heart beat of the world? We will be the first with one billion users? How about, give me a break, Twitter is half way dead.

Let’s look at the traffic, and let’s look what Twitter has to offer. If you do, you will quickly see Twitter is way over rated. Does this mean Google wins the battle though? I don’t think so. There is another, and it does have the heart beat of the world, and the traffic to support my claim. We call it Facebook. Continue reading »

twitterhangingIs Twitter disappearing soon? I seriously doubt it, though they have yet to come up with a solid business plan. This post title is not far from reality though, and when you burn through 50 million like they have at Twitter with still nothing to show for it, doom is not far away. The reason for this post is not about how Twitter is hanging on by a thread, but how your site could be hanging on by a thread.

You Got To Have A Plan

One of the first questions I ask a client when building them a new site is “Why do you want a website?”

Jack Dorsey and Evan Williams of  Twitter apparently came up with the idea in a brainstorming session. They were looking for a new product idea they could develop. They did it, but what they forgot to develop was a plan on how to use it, aka make money from it. To me it seems simple for Twitter. Let everyone use it for free, and charge users that are more demanding to the system. An example of that would be to charge users with more than a certain amount of followers, or charge for users that tweet over a certain amount of times. Continue reading »

About a month ago, I took a good look at my site, compared it to others, and went crazy with the delete button. I also brought a couple items back to life. Here is what I did a month ago that has made: my page views increase by 27%, pages per visit increase by 12%, my bounce rate decrease by 1%, and an increase in my average time on site per session by 56%!

Usually it’s better to make small measurable changes to a site, but enough was enough. My site needed a bigger change. It needed a change at least for me. Continue reading »

Is Twitter going crazy? I’m really getting kind of tired of all the issues the Twitter site has. Check out this screenshot I took from TwitterCounter.com today. I doubled my followers over night! Notice the normal growth prior. Continue reading »

Today I downloaded Firefox version 3.5. I knew it was coming, and I wanted to make sure my Twitter Toolbar was working correctly on it. It was. Then I decided to test out several of my sites to make sure nothing strange was happening. All worked as I expected, and everything appeared normal on others sites as well. Then I decided to check my Google AdWords account. Continue reading »

I was checking the downloads and usage of my Twitter Toolbar for Firefox today, and the number of those that use it everyday is certainly on the rise.

ttst

Downloads and usage was slow at first. This was mainly because it was only available to developers from the Mozilla site. Mozilla has recently made it available to the public,  and that red line represents active daily users. Numbers are definately going up now, and I love it! Downloads from this site still average around fifty a day, and has been downloaded over 10,000 times.

Looking forward to next weeks stats, and hope you download if you haven’t already.
