I just uploaded the new version of the Twitter Toolbar. It’s a very minor update, simply made to be compatible with the new version of Firefox that is coming out, version 3.5. It works find on FF 3.5 beta, and I really only had to make one small tweak. For those in the know, I simply changed the install RDF file to say the max version to now support 3.5 instead of 3.0*.

If you are new to Best Web Image, you might not know that I developed a Twitter Toolbar for the Firefox web browser. It let’s you submit tweets on the fly, and makes it easy to tweet the pages you are on as well. Since I made it, it has been growing pretty quickly in popularity, and out of the 6,000 plus clients it has been recenty ranking in the top 300. Well today, it might have just got a big boost.

The guys at Mashable, a popular blog, just wrote an article titled, 20 + Great Twitter Tools for Firefox. They grabbed the screenshot from my site, using it first to show an example of a Twitter tool, and listed it fourth in their client list. Obviously, Best Web Image got a little boost in traffic today, and hopefully the Twitter Toolbar will really start rocking now.

If you use Twitter and Firefox please give it a try: Download the Twitter Toolbar

If you decide to use it, let me know, and I will follow you. http://twitter.com/camp185

Do you Twitter? Be careful with those emails you get from them. Apparently the not so nice guys are phishing for Twitter accounts. The emails resemble those that Twitter sends you when you get a direct message. I actually received one of these a couple of days ago, but did not sign in on their site because I have my trusty Twitter Toolbar that I created a while back. Using any of the Twitter widgets or softwares like the Twitter Toolbar should help defend against this kind of attack.

If you did get tricked, or would like more details on how to prevent it, here are the details: Gone Phishing for Twitter Accounts.

Well it’s a month later from when I posted last about the Technorati Button. I said I would post today about the benefits or lack of benefits it had on my site.

For a month I had its button in my sidebar, and on the top right of every post. Benefits? None. My number of fans went up by a big fat 1. My authority, actually went down, though I believe that will change very soon. The authority is based on blogs linking into you, and though Technorati has not see it yet, that number has been rising rapidly for me just in the past few days due to my release of the Twitter Toolbar.

So, the advantages of having a Technorati Button, at least on this site? None. Buttons are now gone, and so is their distractions.

twitter

I just built my first version of the Twitter Toolbar. It’s designed for Firefox for now. If it gets enough attention, I will make sure it gets an IE version as well.

What Does it Do?

  • The toolbar has quick links to common Twitter functions, and this website
  • It has a small drop down of common Twitter updates one might use for a quick entry
  • A place to enter your Twitter updates right from your toolbar
  • Is light, and easy to use

There are already a few changes I want to make, but it works so I am releasing now. I’m using it, so why not you too? It works for Firefox versions 1.5 to 3.*.
