Think you know your extensions? Quick, what is a M2C file? Don’t know? Why it’s a IBM voice language new user file of-course. Obviously we don’t know them all, but here is a killer easy to use directory of most extensions known, File Extensions.

The Directory

File Extensions has thousands of extension names identified. The “F” page has over 400. There are a lot of file extensions out there. They have a quick search form so you don’t have to go digging around to find your extension. Just type it in, and up will come it’s info. A pretty handy website for when your boss tells you he can’t open that file using Microsoft Word. Well, duh Jack, it’s a Lotus Notes data entry.

The Software

File Extensions also has a registry scanner designed specifically to analyze those extensions. It looks for those forgotten or deleted applications left behind that could has been messing things up for your PC. As I write this post, the software is currently scanning my PC. Nearly 1,000 errors found so far. It’s an old PC. Install and download was quick and painless, and only took about five minutes to scan my entire registry. Before you make any fixes though, I would strongly suggest backing up your registry first. Please run this scan at your own risk.

Love the directory, and I think this is the sites major selling point. I will have to wait and see over the next few days how I like the software.

lbsriptInterested in another way to earn some extra money from your website without plastering it with ads? Does your site have a links page or directory? If it does, here is a great way to turn those pages into cash machines. Create a directory that gives priority to sites based on their bids.

You could create a bidding directory yourself, but there is an easier way. Download this free directory script. The software is called Link Bid, and is written in PHP so it should be compatiable for most of you. To get it for free, you do have to register, but it’s just a simple email/username registration. The confirmation link takes you to the software support forum where you can download, and find all the support you need.

To see a sample of the LBS software in action you can find a directory of web hosting services on their site that have bid for positions. The software has different templates that you may use, will be free to upgrade, and supports multiple payment gateways. The administration panel gives you a variety of methods to handle the directory and the submissions. The layout is template based so it fairly easy to modify, and is CMS powered. As a bidding customer, the submission form is easy to use, it’s even easier to up your bid, and it is easy to figure out the whole bidding process.

Free is a good way to go, and if you have installed in scripts on your site before this should be an easy one for you. My advice to start it off. Place some sites in their already so it looks like you are already getting bids. It might take some time to get things moving based on the facts people like to buy listings on pages with Google PR.

With exception to naming a web browser as my favorite tool, WinSCP, I think, wears the crown. WinSCP is a SFTP, FTP and SCP client for Windows. It’s also free. I found it last year when my primary hosting company stopped supporting basic FTP. I needed SFTP software, and my old FTP software couldn’t do it.

Immediately Liked

winscp 300x200

After entering information for one of my accounts I tried it out to see what it could do. I liked it immediately. It logged in quick, refreshed changes automatically, and gave me the option to save my place locally. Saving my spot locally when logging in was a feature I loved on my last ftp software package, and I was afraid I was going to miss out on that feature.

It has side by side view of course, the option to show the directory tree above (something I use), and a synchronization button to make sure web and local have the latest versions.

Super Easy to Use

This software is easy to use, intuitive, and really better than I expected. Any time I found myself confused, I later found it was only because of their forward thinking in making things easier than you planned. There are little things I loved as well. One example is when I edit my site. I expect to find files displaying line numbers when editing, but what I didn’t expect was to find the “Go to line” button which I love. Instead of scrolling down to line 183, I just type 183. Bamm I’m there.

It has cool things like being able to right click on a file, and getting a little more than rename or copy. How about execute, tar, touch, grep, print, set permissions, to name a few. The editor has many options as well, and of course includes replace all for those coding repair jobs we have to do time to time.

I could blab on about how much I love, but here are some features listed by the creators of the software to make sure I am not missing something important to you.

Features:

  • Graphical user interface
  • Translated into several languages
  • Integration with Windows (drag&drop, URL, shortcut icons)
  • U3 support
  • All common operations with files
  • Support for SFTP and SCP protocols over SSH-1 and SSH-2 and plain old FTP protocol
  • Batch file scripting and command-line interface
  • Directory synchronization in several semi or fully automatic ways
  • Integrated text editor
  • Support for SSH password, keyboard-interactive, public key and Kerberos (GSS) authentication
  • Integrates with Pageant (PuTTY authentication agent) for full support of public key authentication with SSH
  • Explorer and Commander interfaces
  • Optionally stores session information
  • Optionally supports portable operation using a configuration file in place of registry entries, suitable for operation from removable media

Download WinSCP

Without a doubt WinSCP is something I use everyday, and if you have a website, or just need a FTP application this is the software for you. It’s close to 24 million downloads so it is safe to say there are a few others that like this application as well. Check it out, here are the urls you will need.

Need a shopping cart for your website? I was checking out Boss Cart today, and it appears to be an excellent one. If you have just a few items, or are just starting out with your first ecommerce site, it is always nice to start with a free shopping cart.

Boss Cart is currently available two ways, and soon a third option will be available. The first is my favorite, free. All you have to do is paste a little code in the footer of your site to agree to the terms of usage.

Here is a list of some features with this free version, Boss Cart JV. The JV stands for Joomla Virtumart.

  • Quick and easy to set up
  • Powerful catalogue manager, manages over 20,000 products
  • Tools to create your own unique design or use pre-designed themes
  • Integrate your online store with payment gateway of your choice
  • Host your shop with web hosting company of your choice
  • Extensive marketing and merchandising features, including social marketing plugin
  • Bulk product upload to make populating your store easy
  • 30 Days money back guarantee

The second version, Boss Card Premium is a paid version. Though you must ask for a quote, the owner has ensured me that this is very “affordable eCommerce Software“.

The third package, soon to be offered, is the bespoke shopping software, Boss Cart Optimum. This is a 100% customized package for your ecommerce site needs. You are not really buying a software package here though. You are buying experienced shopping cart experts. They will then give your site a truly unique, customized shopping experience, available only to your visitors.

Looking Around on The Web

Before putting a software package like this to use, I first like to look around a little to see who else is using it, and how it’s being used. Doing a quick search on Google for “enhanced by bosscart”, I found 695 links. I had no problem at all finding many sites using the free version, and the ones I visited appeared to be working very well.

If you are using this ecommerce software please let us know how it works for you by posting a comment below. My two cents? Two thumbs up!
