I’ve been asked to look at a lot of seo sites over the past year, and the one thing I always look for is how they actually rank. It’s a credibility thing. How are they supposed to rank your site well, when they can’t rank themselves. Granted, it’s a competitive topic to get ranked well, but are you going to use a company that ranks 367th, or in the top ten? Welcome to HubShout.

hubshout

HubShout is an online marketing company that doesn’t just offer SEO services. They brag about it. Many of the seo sites I look at rank poorly, not at all, or just have maybe one spot in the top thirty listings on Google. I don’t think there is any better credibility factor that you can find from a seo company that their ranking. HubShout is shooting for SEO technology. On their home page they mention that they are ranked on the first page of Google for the keyword. Well guess what, they are not just on page one, but listed second. If you are in the top five for your keyword, be happy. It’s not an easy accomplishment, especially when you are competing against 10,000,000 plus other sites.

HubShout offers the typical SEO services.

  • Free consultation
  • Onsite audit, and keyword research
  • Link building services
  • Paid search campaign

They also have a great listing of seo articles to help you out. Before diving into any seo campaign I would strongly advise finding out as much as you can ahead of time. Pretend you are buying a new flat screen t.v., and research the heck out of it. HubShout has passed my first credibility test. They actually rank well for a competitive keyword.

Any New Yorkers out their looking for a local web design studio? Check out these New York web designers. The name of the company is Davidz on Online Web Design Studio. I don’t really think calling them a design studio really does them justice though. They are not just a bunch of designers.

Besides building websites, they offer a few equally important services, marketing, site hosting, and search engine optimizations. There is not much for a webmaster to do after that. Having a web design firm that also specializes in SEO is a great combo. SEO should really start day one when developing a site, see search engine optimization New York. So what company would be best at marketing your site? Probably the guys that developed and optimized your site for search engines and marketing. They are already in on the strategy side of your site.

The one service they offered at this studio that made me a little jealous was that they additionally offer hosting service. They have a couple of packages to choose from, and are well priced. I always just refer my customers, making them get their own host. Something they usually have no clue on. All said and done, Davidz on Online Web Design Studio in New York is your all in one package for getting your site up and running, and getting the traffic you would expect.

submit

Looking for SEO Services? Submit Comfort has a variety of services that can take some of the burden off of your shoulders when it comes to site marketing. You can’t do everything, right?

There are a few  obvious ways to market for online sales. You can buy visitors, you can buy advertisements, or you get ranked well on search engines for your keyword. All will require time and money, but optimizing your site for search engines can produce results that the first two just can’t compare with. Additionally, it doesn’t require the constant high cost to maintain once things start kicking in. Persons searching for a product often want to buy. Don’t you want those kind of visitors?

Submit Comfort offers a variety of levels for service. They have:

  • One way natural link building
  • Social marketing
  • Directory submissions
  • Blog submissions
  • Bulk content writing
  • Article submissions
  • Custom requirements

They also offer a free analysis which is always a great way to start. Once things get rolling, they offer a member panel that logs all of the work they have done for your site. Their SEO packages range in price from $125-$2,000, and if you want to spend more I am sure they will be happy to help you find a way.

Many don’t always believe the hype about search engine traffic, and I didn’t always myself. I know from personal experience though, that a keyword rich page can generate 500 unique visitors from Google alone. That is what my best SEO page, on another site, has been averaging for over two years now. I only wish that was a product selling page.

If anyone here has a page that generates over 1,000 visitors from search engines let us know! We would love to hear your story, and if anyone is using Submit Comfort, kick down with the customer experience.

So you have worked hard optimizing your site for search engines, and the traffic is beginning to come in. You have fine tuned your site, tested it with participants, and you feel confident that sales will happen. You have one big problem though, things are not as they planned, and you are getting zero conversions.

Wrong Target Audience

If you are not converting, and you don’t think it’s your site, maybe it’s your visitors. Here is a must read: Good Keyword Research, found on SEO Services website. The article is about fine tuning your keywords. A common mistake that is made is generalizing a site to just one keyword.  They use the example SEO, versus SEO Services. Fighting to get ranked for the keyword SEO is difficult at best, but if you are a SEO service company, you might not really want that traffic anyhow. You want traffic from people looking to hire you. A better keyword phrase would be “SEO Services”. It’s an easier battle, and the target audience is more defined. By the way, SEO Services is currently ranked 4th on Google so I think they know what they are talking about.

For this site, I used to try getting the word, usability. Not the greatest idea. Usability testing is done on more than just websites. There is also a lot of competition for the word. So when I found that was failing, I fined tuned it to “web usability and design tips”. I am trying to target visitors who are simply looking for a blog that offers my advice on the subject. I want subscribers! I’m currently now on page one for the keyword phrase.

SEO, Usability, Target Audience, Conversion

SEO, usability, and target audience. It’s what you need to make a conversion. SEO to get the free traffic, and usability to make sure the audience can easily convert. What about the target audience? Well if you don’t have that, you don’t have crap. Optimize to get them, optimize to convert them, and optimize your services to keep them comming back.

I have seen many discussions on whether or not you should use nofollow for a comment author’s URL. I honestly didn’t know which way to go so I decided to go right down the line with a neat little fix. First a little bit about the pros and cons.

Allowing the Follow

The major pro? It can encourage people to write comments on your posts. The major con? It leeches your PR, and could bring you down a little in the rankings. Get enough comments on a post, and your site might even look spammy to a search engine.

Being Mean, NoFollow

The major pro? All those visitors comments, if you get any now, will not hurt your search rankings. The major con? You may not get as many comments. I call it mean, because I feel it’s similar to having someone come into your store, and not saying thank you for visiting.

My Solution

My solution to the problem is to incorporate a little bit of both worlds. I give the first three comment authors their full credit. Comments made after the third, incorporate rel=”nofollow”. Immediate input is encouraged, and having a list full of outbound links prevented. I keep getting posters, and keep my SEO dignity.

Plugin

So I am also guessing some of you might want this as a plugin for WordPress. I am going to make one in the next day or two. It was such an easy fix to my template though, I just had to get it going without one. Edit four lines of code or write an entire plugin? Let me see:)

It’s Friday, and it’s time for some site feedback. If you are new to Best Web Image, and the Site Feedback Posts, it’s about giving some feedback on the site listed below.

Today’s Site: SEO Experts

Please take the time to look at their site, and let them know what you think by making comments on this post below.

Feedback: Positive and negative comments are welcome, but comments like “it sucks” has no value because you don’t say why. Were just trying to help each other here.

My last post was about how a site missed the opportunity to use text in their menu. They used graphics, and SEO wise, it not a great idea. It will also fail you if someone visits your site, and their browser does not load images. An example of this might be a pda. Well, here is a great example of making your menu with text, but still giving it some style. Check out this Website Design Company.

If you look at the left menu underneath the logo you will see the menu items appear like graphics, especially when you hover over, but really, they are not images. They are text with style. The style has not been made with the usual CSS style sheet, but with JavaScript. I did a little check of my stats from one of my busier sites, and found 98% of the visitor’s browsers supported JavaScript. I think you are safe to use. In the case of the Michigan design site, they also supported their menu with just plain text in the footer of the site. Double SEO factor, and usability supported.

If you are looking for some cool JavaScript’s to give similar effects as Michigan Website Design, check out Script.aculo.us

I hate writing about SEO, because it isn’t really my speciality. I am compentent at it, just not an expert. One thing that kills me though is when a site misses out on a chance for some easy SEO, and make a usability error at the same time.

Check out this Toronto Immigration Lawyer site. It has a wonderful looking layout, but the left menu items are all images. They have actually been caught in a triple play. They have made the usability error of using an image where text could have been used, they have not included an alt tag description for the images, and they have lost out on an opportunity to improve their sites keyword value. Try searching for one of their menu items, and include Canada as a keyword. Survey says, not in the top 100 search results using Google. I tried all of their menu items, and it failed for all with exception to the first one, Family Sponsorhsip.

I can only imagine if they are offering those services they would love their site to come up in the results. Images can make a site look great, but know when to use them. As a replacement for text? No way!

Here is a unique method of advertising, in forum advertising. The link is the name of the company by the way. Very smooth, but I am not sure if I like the idea, at least as a forum reader. Those of you that specialize in marketing websites, I think you already know what these guys do, and you know how powerful it can be if done correctly. For me though, I was honestly a little mad at first because I saw a screen shot of Digital Point, a webmaster forum I frequent.

Quality Posts

In Forum Advertising isn’t just a bunch of forum abusers though. Yes they market your product, but they do it in a way that I think even the forum owner would approve of. Their policy is to make four helpful posts to the forum community to every one mention of your product. With little to no effort I am sure it would be easy enough to do, and to make the effect seem very natural. I am sure their advertising is also more effective when the posts are coming from positive, strong forum members. Meaning, they want to make quality posts.

Extra SEO Bonus

So now imagine these guys going around talking about your site. I would imagine they would have to leave links here and there, right? The links would also be in natural context as well because they are talking about your site in forum threads. Now this service is starting to really make sense. Positive posts pushing the product, and improving the sites search engine profile at the same time.

Targeted Visitors

Now I know I started off a little harsh on this company, but really, it was my first impression. I guess marketing isn’t always a picture of a sexy girl. Sometimes it’s a well thought out plan, and part of this plan is targeted visitors. Links and SEO are great, but if all you are getting is guy visitors, and you are selling dresses, well, your marketing failed. When In Forum Advertising starts posting about your product they do it at topic related forums. This is like selling string at a kite store.

Seriously, with all these benefits using In Forum Advertising, it has got to be highly effective. If you have used this service please let me know! I’m ready to give it a try.

Did you know optimizing a site for search engines is a usability issue? It is. Why? Because if a visitor searches for a topic that your site specializes in, and you don’t show up in the results, your site is not very usable. In fact, to the random visitor, it doesn’t even exist.

There are many tips a SEO expert can bring to the table when optimizing your site. I learned one today from the owner of SEO Spain, a search optimization company. For those of you in Spain that are in the pre-SEO stage, and still need to build a site, you might want to check out his page, Web Design Spain.

Here is the tip given to me. When visiting his site I noticed he had spelled optimization wrong. It was spelled, optimisation, using an “S” instead of a “Z”. Well, it was right if you live in Spain or the UK area. The tip he gave me was that search engines recognize the spelling difference. That is a good tip, and another good reason to get a SEO expert to look at your site. It’s a good tip because it strengthens the concept that you should write for people, not search engines. Talking to any reputable SEO expert I think they will agree, write for people, optimize for search engines. Optimizing is not loading your site with a bunch of words with intentional spelling errors or fluff. It is knowing how to properly structure your site, how to correctly use emphasis, and how to write on the web.
