The keyword in this post is RATINGS! I guess this is just a WordPress kind of day, considering my last post. Since I have had this blog, I have been looking for a good star rating system for my posts. It’s a great way to get reader feedback.

Every plugin I tried though, either didn’t work, didn’t work with this particular blog, or just looked like junk. Finally, I have one, and I did nothing to get it! Continue reading »

Recently, I’ve become a little turned off by some more popular blogs that are becoming primarily filled with guest authors content, and wondered how others felt about blogs and reading guest posts.

If you read blogs on a regular basis, I would love your vote on this poll:

Obvious to many, many are completely unaware of the nofollow attribute in a link. The use of nofollow could be a good poll as well. Originally developed to stop bots from following a link, Google seems to think its main purpose is to identify paid links.

Personally, I believe it should be used for its original purpose, and that Google’s lack of ability to recognize a link as a “paid one” simply reflects that one of its methods to identify a valuable site needs to reconsidered. If Google expects webmasters to identify a sponsor, why not use something like rel=”sponsor”? Google or other search engines can then choose how to handle the attribute personally. At first appearance this poll may not seem like a poll that is relevant to having a great website, but really, it is. This is all about having a plan, and as many of us know Twitter did not have a business model when they developed the site. I know they have dreams of being the first site to have a billion users, and I am sure they have high hopes of surpassing Google or Facebook, but I don’t see it. In fact, I predict that they will never break 50 million unique users a month.

Here is the poll: Do you think Twitter will ever have more than 50 million unique visitors in one month?

Completely sick of captchas on forms, I simply had to create this poll after dealing with are really bad captcha. Check out the screenshot I have included of the captcha underneath the poll.

I almost completely forgot this weeks poll! Over the past week or so, I have read a few studies on how a large percentage of users don’t use the RSS buttons to subscribe to a feed. Many use emails. What I see on some of the sites that publish their numbers though, is that it’s the other way around. So this leads me to this weeks poll

Here is the poll: Do you prefer to subscribe to blogs by email or RSS?

Monday I wrote a post about why you should probably not have music automatically playing on your website, Music on Your Website. One really good reason came from comment I found on a webmaster forum. The commenter said they are usually already listening to music, and a websites tunes just interrupts their music. That’s a pretty good reason.

I’m not sure how important it really is though, so I think a poll like this will help us get an idea how many do listen to music while using their computer. Is music on a website really interrupting that many music lovers?

Here is the poll: Do you listen to music while using your computer?

Earlier this week I wrote a post about how I disagree with Jakob’s findings that unmasking the password field in a form will improve usability, and could even improve security. I strongly believe password fields should be masked, and one of my points was that I think there is a potential to lose customers at an even great scale because they feel the site is not secure. So here is this weeks poll.

Here is the poll: Do you think masking the password field in a form improves security?

I recently ran into a web forum discussion about losing RSS subscribers. They had listed a few predictable reason, and I immediately thought that this would work better as a poll.

Here is the poll: Why Do You Unsubscribe From RSS Feeds?
