Like many Firefox users, I recently upgraded to the new version 3.5. Any major changes? Not really. A few problems with some of Google’s pages (no fault to the browser), a few problems with some add-ons (to be expected), but besides that everything seemed to work well.

Wait a second, what was that? I switched tabs, and all of a second a whole new Firefox window opened. Let me try that again. Nope, didn’t happen. That was weird. I didn’t tell Firefox to open a new window, and I know it’s not a javascript doing that because it was my site that opened a new window. Sound familiar? It’s a tear tabbing nightmare. So I was checking some stats today about my Twitter Toolbar, and found that 17-27% of those who download it use it everyday. I thought that was pretty impressive. I was able to gain that information from Mozzilla, and it’s based only of those of you that are developers. The toolbar is currently in Mozzilla’s Sandbox, and won’t be  available to the public on their site until enough of them review it. You can still download it here though: Twitter Toolbar.

Checking the stats I have, the toolbar is now averaging over fifty downloads everyday from this site. It’s available for download from several software sites, and I really have no idea how many times it’s been downloaded. I can say it’s been at least downloaded over 10,000 times from this site alone since I made it in October 2008.  Twitter is growing, and so is the use of the toolbar!

What’s Next?

When I first made the toolbar I think I had a whopping 10 updates to my name @camp185. I saw Twitter, loved it, and cranked out the toolbar over the weekend. Recently though, I am getting a pretty good following, and have become more of a power Twitter user. Over time I am finding my toolbar is missing a few functions, I think, and it’s time to add some more functionality.

Many of you have expressed the need of customization. My biggest issue is the drop down menu. It’s missing some frequently used items, and I want to delete things like “eating breakfast” and the other junk stuff. When I made it, I had no idea what people tweet or how they tweet.

So to solve both of the problems the next update will change the drop down so that it strore your tweets, include an option to delete it’s history of course, and include a few basic Twitter commands like RT, @, D and stuff like that. It will still include the URL grabber too. I think this will make it absolutely rock! I know many of you like to repeat your tweets, and this will for sure be the best application to do just that. It may even be a reason to switch to Firefox for you IE users.

When will the next update be? Soon, but I can’t give an exact date. I will need a solid day to do it, and those don’t come often. My goal is to have it for you by the end of April though so stay tuned, it shouldn’t be long.
