Is their malicious software on your site? Here is a quick little check you can do using Google. I’ll use my site as an example link, and when you want to do your own site just replace the domain name in the link: http://google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=bestwebimage.com

I Got Hacked!

There are all sorts of hackers out their, and even more robots doing the hacks. I always try to keep a careful eye on what’s going on with my sites, and one of the ways I found out about a problem site was with this diagnostic tool. I was running an old WordPress version and hackers figured out to hack the application. Upon doing a routine visit to the site, I got the Google warning saying my site has malicious software running on it. Needless to say, my site was not the only victim. I also upgraded the software, and got rid of the crap. It was basically some link hijacking.

Firefox and Google

If you use Firefox, Google now has a beta version of their toolbar that includes this check. Google Safe Browsing Toolbar. Don’t be surprised if you don’t see any warnings on this site. I just checked.

I just wanted to let everyone who is using my Twitter Toolbar, and there are a whole bunch more than last time I updated, that their is a new update. You can now download Twitter Toolbar version 1.09, my latest version.

Latest Updates:

  • Made it so that updates longer than 140 characters transfer you and the update to Twitters main update box for easy editing
  • Added Link to Direct Messages
  • Added Link to Follow Me!
  • Fixed a conflicting access key

Current Issues and Things I Want

Version 1.09 isn’t really the version I wanted to release, but I have been using it for a while myself, and simply put, it’s better than version 1.08. It’s mainly because every time I tweeted before, I always wondered if my tweet was too long. If it’s too long now, it will take you to Twitter’s page with your update in the update box, so it is easy to edit. I also made a few minor changes, and added a couple of menu items.

The next version I plan on releasing will be a much larger improvement. Many of you are begging for more dynamic content. The toolbar needs to read what is going on in your world, and become much more than a fancy submit button. I want it to show number of new replies, messages, and I would really love a scrolling text of live updates. All are possible, but building Firefox add-ons is not my specialty, so please give me time.

Please let me know if you having in problems or have a suggestion!

You may have noticed that I have not made a post in a couple of days. I’m am going crazy with my Twitter Toolbar that I just created. I am simply addicted to getting it to work exactly the way I want it, and am having a lot of fun doing it. On the subject of toolbars though, I thought I could at least make a new post about a favorite cool tool that I use. The Web Developer Toolbar, created by Chris Pederick.

This toolbar is a really cool tool for webmasters. One click, get all form ID’s. One click, see outline of a website. One click view source. This thing works more like a Swiss Army knife than a toolbar. Doing a quick count, I found at least 100 different functions. It’s designed for Firefox, so sorry IE users.

twitter

I just built my first version of the Twitter Toolbar. It’s designed for Firefox for now. If it gets enough attention, I will make sure it gets an IE version as well.

What Does it Do?

  • The toolbar has quick links to common Twitter functions, and this website
  • It has a small drop down of common Twitter updates one might use for a quick entry
  • A place to enter your Twitter updates right from your toolbar
  • Is light, and easy to use

There are already a few changes I want to make, but it works so I am releasing now. I’m using it, so why not you too? It works for Firefox versions 1.5 to 3.*.

Ready to Give it a Try?

Updates

I will posting changes, updates, and whatever work I am doing on it here: Twitter Toolbar Updates. This is also the main download page for installing the toolbar.

Last night I decided to add a new category to the site, Cool Tools. This was a big decision for me, because I only intend on having a maximum of six categories total. I have finally decided to start dedicating more time to BWI, and will also be bringing on a few new authors as well. It’s time to grow, and give the audience a little bigger bite to enjoy. Cool Tools will be about new tools I find, or favorite tools currently being used by myself or the current author.

Screenshot Studio

The first Cool Tool is one of my personal favorites, Screenshot Studio. Screenshot Studio is screen capture software if you didn’t guess. I first found it in the Firefox add-on directory. It is without a doubt, my favorite Firefox add-on, and use it for many of my blog posts. There is an add-on for IE as well.

It basically works just like hitting the print screen button. The power, or beauty of the software though, is what you can easily do to the shot afterwards. Crop, create text boxes, text boxes with arrows, draw lines, free hand draw, blur, and a lot more. You can then easily save the image to your hard drive, your server, or even their host.

Another cool and yet important feature of the application is it’s cost. It’s free. They do offer a paid version, but the additional benefits are pretty weak compared to the overall power of the free version.

If you don’t have it yet I would strongly suggest grabbing it now. Download Page

Here is a cool little add-on for you Firefox users, Firefox Domain Availability Extension. It is a domain name availability checker. Why go to a domain register company website to look for available domains, when Firefox can do it for you. No captcha’s, no waiting, just a simple available or not answer.

It took me about a thirty seconds to install, I had to restart Firefox, and there it was on the bottom right. Worked perfectly the first time I tried.

The “Register Now” link takes you to GoDaddy.com which I liked. Even when you are on the GoDaddy.com website you can continue to use it. Use it on a blank tab, it really doesn’t matter. This is a really fast add-on, and when you are trying out bunches of domain names to get one you like, this is great. You get your answers immediately, and you don’t have to play games to with a company like Network Solutions to find out if a name is available. It would be nice if this was an application on it’s own, to run on your desktop, but my Firefox is open pretty much all day anyhow.

Cool add-on for you webmasters out there, and domain brokers, download now.
