fiebugI had a pleasant surprise today to find the Firefox just updated. You can get the latest version, 3.6.2 here: Firefox 3.6.2.

What’s the big deal. None really, mostly just security fixes, and some stability issues. One worth mentioning in regards to stability was that some users were not getting notified that their extensions may need updating after upgrading to 3.6. Continue reading »

Here is an easy example on why you should use more than one type of web browser for testing your site. A special thank you goes to Premium Concert Tickets for allowing me to use one of their pages as an example: Michael Buble Tickets.

The IE Version

Still building websites in IE? There is nothing wrong with that. Still building website in IE, and not testing it with another type like Firefox? Crazy! I test intranet sites that I make for only IE6 users with other types of browsers. I have to, if I want high quality. Besides, there is something wrong with IE. Continue reading »

Firefox and Microsoft Internet Explorer handle the title attribute for images differently. Now before you IE bashers jump on this please take the time to read this to the end. Firefox messes this up as well. Here are some of the problems, and my simple partial solution.

Also, within this post I often refer to the mouse over popup. If you are unfamiliar with what I mean by that, simply hover your mouse over my logo in the top left. Within a second or two you should see a small window display “Best Web Image – Web Usability and Design”. That is what I am talking about. Continue reading »

Last month I started doing some research on small business website, see what I found then: A Text File Website Could Be Better. Well I have continued that research into October, and already this month I have looked at nearly 500 small business websites. My initial conclusion? There are millions of small business website built around the year 2000, and they have not been updated since. Small business owners, this post is for you.

It’s Not the Year 2000 Anymore

Looking at website after website I started to see a common occurrence with small business websites. Updates are not very frequent, and layout upgrades appear to be non-existent. So what you say? Well mainly, it’s not the year 2000 anymore. The way websites appear, function, and perform are completely different today than they were back in 2000.

This is all about visitor expectations. Visitors are expecting more from a website than just a brochure site. They are also expecting a business website to be more professional in appearance. It’s time to delete the silly animated gifs or scrolling text. It’s time to make your content consistent in format, and it’s most definitely time to make sure everything works correctly on your website. In my previous post about this, A Text File Website Could Be Better, formatting is certainly a major issue. Continue reading »

Earlier this week I mentioned how my favorite browser is Firefox. I also mentioned how I would share with you some of my favorite add-ons. Three of them are mandatory for me, one of them I developed, and the rest are just nice to have.

Note to Internet Explorer Users: these add-ons may or may not work for your browser. I’m not really sure. I primarily use Firefox, and the links I give are for Firefox versions.

Keeping It Quick

My favorite PC to use (I use four on a regular basis), is getting on in its years, so I try to keep the add-ons to a low roar. I don’t want to be lagging like this guy in the picture below. He obviously went a little crazy with the add-ons. Don’t do this to your browser. It will not like you. Continue reading »

Every morning I like to read blogs and forums. Here are the top three I found of value today. Continue reading »

Like many Firefox users, I recently upgraded to the new version 3.5. Any major changes? Not really. A few problems with some of Google’s pages (no fault to the browser), a few problems with some add-ons (to be expected), but besides that everything seemed to work well.

Wait a second, what was that? I switched tabs, and all of a second a whole new Firefox window opened. Let me try that again. Nope, didn’t happen. That was weird. I didn’t tell Firefox to open a new window, and I know it’s not a javascript doing that because it was my site that opened a new window. Sound familiar? It’s a tear tabbing nightmare. Today I downloaded Firefox version 3.5. I knew it was coming, and I wanted to make sure my Twitter Toolbar was working correctly on it. It was. Then I decided to test out several of my sites to make sure nothing strange was happening. All worked as I expected, and everything appeared normal on others sites as well. Then I decided to check my Google AdWords account. Continue reading »

I was checking the downloads and usage of my Twitter Toolbar for Firefox today, and the number of those that use it everyday is certainly on the rise.

ttst

Downloads and usage was slow at first. This was mainly because it was only available to developers from the Mozilla site. Mozilla has recently made it available to the public,  and that red line represents active daily users. Numbers are definately going up now, and I love it! Downloads from this site still average around fifty a day, and has been downloaded over 10,000 times.

Looking forward to next weeks stats, and hope you download if you haven’t already.

Well I didn’t even know about Flock, but the good news for Flock users is that my Twitter Toolbar (originally designed for Firefox) works for your browser too. Flock is Mozilla creation so I guess it makes sense that it works. The thing is, my Twitter Toolbar add-on works even BETTER on Flock!

What makes it better is the fact that you can see all of the updates made by the people you follow in the left sidebar. This is something that I had been considering doing to anyhow, but I opted not to because I thought Firefox users wouldn’t like it. It turns out there is another crowd that does like it, and they are Flock users. Good news for me? I don’t have to do a thing!
