Site Feedback for WhoMain.com

Nov 072008

It’s Friday, and it’s time for some site feedback. If you are new to Best Web Image, and the Site Feedback Posts, it’s about giving some feedback on the site listed below. The best way to improve a site is listening to visitor feedback!

Today’s Site: WhoMain.com nw

Description: WhoMain.com is a domain whois, and a meta data tool site.

Visitor Feedback: Please take the time to look at their site, and let them know what you think by making comments on this post below. Positive and negative comments are welcome, but comments like “it sucks” or “it’s nice” have no value because you don’t say why.

Your Site: If you want your site to get posted here let me know. Just make sure to include your email, the url, and why you think I should pick your site. It’s free, just not everyone is going to get picked.

    Very useful…

I found that I ended up staying on the site for a while checking out the information for the website that I have to manage. I’m a designer not an IT person, and felt that the website we easy to use and obtain the information I needed.

There’s not alot of design on the site – but I don’t think it needs it. The information is cleanly organised which is what a user needs.

One thing – it did take a while to load for some reason… maybe my browser? (Safari on a Mac)

    Side note:
I was also a little surprised with how much personal information gets listed… I’m so naive!

The site does take a while to load but that is simply because the script gathers a vast amount of information from many different sources and this takes time, i kept the design simple because i like crisp looking sites & users should be able to find the information they want on a domain/website quickly once all the data has been retrieved.

    Thanks for the review!

When I first hit the site it looked good.. but its took a
while to figure out where to input the domain info..

I think you should that that domainsearch box and make it
more prominate on the site.. like right in the middle above
    the toolbar ad.

Michael’s suggestion to highlight the domain search box is a good one!

Purhaps position the search box within the panel that has the copy “HOW TO USE: Enter A Domain Name Above And Click ‘Go’ Then Wait A Few Moments… Simple!” and re-word a little *grin* as it would no longer be above.

I would have to agree with Michaels comment. I didn’t find the text box right away. Visitors often look for visual indicators, and in it’s current state, it’s more hidden than anything else. I would try to give that “Go” button a little more kick.

It still doesn’t stand out for me. The text box is lost. Here is an example: Look at the search box at the top of this site. Now imagine I style it likes yours where the borders are gone. The text box would be basically invisible. You could still see the “Search” button to the right though. Would you know to type in your query to the left of the button? I see the “enter domain name here” text on your site, but people hardly read. They skim, and look for visual indicators. “enter domain name here” might as well be “blah blah blah”.
