Did you know optimizing a site for search engines is a usability issue? It is. Why? Because if a visitor searches for a topic that your site specializes in, and you don’t show up in the results, your site is not very usable. In fact, to the random visitor, it doesn’t even exist.
There are many tips a SEO expert can bring to the table when optimizing your site. I learned one today from the owner of SEO Spain, a search optimization company. For those of you in Spain that are in the pre-SEO stage, and still need to build a site, you might want to check out his page, Web Design Spain.
Here is the tip given to me. When visiting his site I noticed he had spelled optimization wrong. It was spelled, optimisation, using an “S” instead of a “Z”. Well, it was right if you live in Spain or the UK area. The tip he gave me was that search engines recognize the spelling difference. That is a good tip, and another good reason to get a SEO expert to look at your site. It’s a good tip because it strengthens the concept that you should write for people, not search engines. Talking to any reputable SEO expert I think they will agree, write for people, optimize for search engines. Optimizing is not loading your site with a bunch of words with intentional spelling errors or fluff. It is knowing how to properly structure your site, how to correctly use emphasis, and how to write on the web.
