Network Solutions – Not Ready to Compete

If you have to ask, then you can’t afford it. Is that really what Network Solutions is going for? Wielding yet another new logo on their ultra white site, you will find that revealing prices on their home page is not their policy. Ever since they popped online, prices on the home page has appeared as a no no.
Where is the price listed on Network Solutions Site? On the home page you wont’ find it. On GoDaddy’s site price is clearly their selling point.
I Used to Trust Network Solutions
Ten years ago, there wasn’t a lot of choices on where you could register your domain. Network Solutions was one of them though, and I often used them. I even referred clients to them. I had very few problems ordering, and I think one of the major reasons I initially selected them, was because of the trust factor. Network Solution appeared to be a trustworthy site to me, so I made the order.
Today I got a renewal notice from them, and it actually tried getting me to renew without knowing the price. Trust factor for me? Zero. I didn’t dare click to even see if they showed the price on the next page. I know they have my credit card number, and I am guessing they will simple bill it. Don’t forget, they were the ones that invented the auto renew feature for domain names, and made the choice to auto renew by default. I really stopped trusting Network Solutions when that happened.
Failing To Convert
I honestly didn’t plan on using Network Solution to renew the domain, but if the price was right I might have stayed. It’s easier than transferring anyhow. Failing to convert me because I didn’t trust them though, I quickly ran over to GoDaddy.com. Right on their home page is says $6.99 for a year on domain transfers. That’s all the information I need, and will make the transfer later today, the transfer to GoDaddy that is. Network Solutions, you failed to convert, and I blame your lack of disclosure.
I Want It Now
Just like in the real world, their are two types of shoppers. Those that are currently browsing, and those that are buying. I honestly don’t see any advantage of hiding a price tag, but when you have the shopper at the register now is the time to reveal the price if you haven’t already. They are going to find out the price sooner or later, right? Do you want them mad, and bad mouthing your company after they make a purchase because it’s more than they expected? Maybe you do, that is if you are Network Solutions. I think most of us know better though.
A Quick Comparison
Want a great comparison on how sharing your prices on your home page works against a site that does not? Both GoDaddy and Network Solutions have been around since 1999. Both have maintained their policy, GD displaying prices, and NS not displaying prices on the home page. Both companies offer similar services. Who is the champ now? GoDaddy is clearly the winner in this competition, and gets nearly four times the traffic that Network Solutions does. Think prices, and making users aware of their prices is the winning plan for GoDaddy? I do.
