Jakob Nielsen released a new report to day: Horizontal Attention Leans Left. His findings indicate that web users spend 69% of their time on the left hand side of the page.

    Very interesting read about different right to left languages using left justification.
    English language sites using RHS navigation just seems odd.

  3. You’ve certainly been following the ‘left’ adage for a long time, Rob. :) I hadn’t really noticed but whenever I scale two browsers on my screen side by side, I always do it in a way that the left is more visible than the right, lol.

  4. Yes, I also observed that website that are align left side portion of the browser is much better for my eyes.

  5. I’m flummoxed, this goes against what I was taught. What would Google think?

    • How about…what does Google do? Do a search on anything and click web options near the top. A menu pops up on the left.
      Google Analytics, menu on the left. Google Maps, options on the left. Google Reader, menu on the left. Google Wave, nav menu on the left. Google Adwords menu on top and left. IGoogle, menu on the left.

      Facebook, menu on the top and left, and the list goes on…will make another post about that question now!

  7. yea everything is on the left so i am going to make a site with all the important stuff on the right just to be a rebel, lol

  8. sure all people look at the left side because in most of blogs the left side contains the content.

  9. That’s why your ads are on the left. hehe. I think it also depends on the layout(the colors).
