Does the smell of coffee brewing get you up in the morning? Yes, no, don’t drink coffee? The smell of coffee does get me moving. I know for some of you it could be that mega sale at Macy’s or the “No Sales Tax” weekend at the local hardware store. Point being, there are a lot of things that can motivate your site visitors.

Highlight Your Promotions

A common thing I see when it comes to online promotions is offering free shipping. It’s a great idea, and if done right, you can actually get the visitor to buy more than what they initially intended. The question is “Are you blowing it?” Time after time I see sites hiding their promotions near the footer of a site, or they put it in a side column appearing almost like an ad. Don’t forget people tend to block out things that looks like ads.

vaporize 300x109

This vaporizer site knows how to take advantage of their promotion by putting the free shipping notice right on top where everyone can see it. In fact, it is one of the first things you see when visiting the site. You will need to visit the site to see it, my screen capture software does not capture the flash image well.

Offering something for free is border line pointless if it doesn’t get your desired action. This boils down to my favorite web design concept. Know exactly what the page is intended for, and only have items on that page to do it. Everything has purpose, and you need to set priority levels for each item. On this particular site they are offering free shipping for purchases of $50 and over. This ad needs to be on every page, which it is, and it needs to get your attention. They have taken this to an extreme level by animating it in flash. I hardly think you could buy something on the site without noticing it.

Ready to run that promotion? Make sure EVERYONE knows, and everyone can see it!

  1. I couldn’t agree more, why hide value you to your customer?
