So today I am giving Google’s Friend Connect a try. I thought I would outline the steps in doing it.

  1. First you need to go to the main page: Google Friend Connect
  2. Then you have to download two files, and upload them to your root directory of your site.

  3. Google checks your site to make sure you have uploaded correctly.
  4. Select your gadget. There are several to choose from. I am testing out the Review/Rate gadget.
  5. Selecting the Review/Rate gadget I need to decide what is going to be rated, the site, an ID, or a page. I am selecting the page, because I want to allow visitors to rate posts.

  6. Customize the the gadget for your site. I am using the default with exception to the background because the colors are already similar to BWI’s.
  7. Paste code into your site where you want it.

Job done, and if you look in this post you can see the rating gadget right underneath my related posts header. The total time took about fifteen minutes, and that was including the time I spent writing this. Will it last on this site? Only time will tell and analyses, will tell.

  1. [...] Just made a simple how to post on my main site for Google’s Friend Connect. Here is the post: Google’s Friend Connect [...]

  2. Well I must say it was very easy to set up, but I already killed it off. To make it work on a WordPress Post so that user can rate each post would be way to time extensive. It is not dynamic as far as I can tell.
I tried all three options they had, and searched their help. No luck so adios. It may explain why you don’t see a lot of it on blogs.
