Arrrrggggggg…..no it’s not pirate day, just mad.

I’m writing this post today to inspire you? No. To inform you? No. I’m writing this post today to bury a deleted post I made yesterday. I wrote a post, I deleted it, and during that short span of say, ten minutes, Feedburner caught it, and is now including it into my feed. It won’t let it go, so I am simply hoping by making this post it will go away.

Are your deleted posts getting feeded anyhow? Mine did.

Willing to try new things I decided to add in the left sidebar the Top Commentator function. The list will show the most vocal commentators on this site.

Am I crazy by not using nofollow, and leaching out my PR from every page of this site. Ehh…big deal. Really though, I believe in using nofollow in many cases, but this is not one that applies.

Blogging is a two way street. Without comments and feedback for a bloggers post, what would be the point? We need the comments, even if they disagree with the post. Without that recognition it’s hardly a fair playing ground. I can show whom I am when I speak, but you can’t?

My blog posts always allow visitors to include their website when making a comment, and now with Top Commentator the more vocal of you will become more profiled on this site. Thank you for commenting!

A month ago and a few days, I mentioned how August would be about attacking the bounce. I had completed the fix my site analytical analysis using July’s numbers, and the bounce rate was my worse offender. Doing the same using August numbers I am now after page views per visitor. So here is what I did in August, and how it effected my site. Continue reading »

Waking up this morning the first thing that popped into my head was the question “Is my site alive?” Guessing there is no written criteria for a living website, I thought I would check the popular biological methods, and give those methods a little computer perspective.

Is My Site Alive?

Here are seven quick checks to see if my website is alive based on the biological definition of life. Continue reading »

What did I do?  About ten days ago my subscribers started going down. What did I do? Looking at my sites journal for changes I couldn’t really find anything that played a major roll. Feedburner Smiths plugin did not play a roll in this, at least I think, though it did mess me up another way. Was it a layout change? Did I screw up a link? Nope and no. It was Link Splicer, and my bad. Continue reading »

For those of you that know about the plugin Feedburner Smith you know how handy it is turning your Feedburner RSS link into a more friendly (your original) feed link. Last month I finally installed it on this site, and a week later I uninstalled it.

The reason for killing it off was because I was losing a more important part to my site, and that was the knowledge of where my subscribers are coming from. Here is a cool tip on how to track where your subscribers are coming from if you use Google Analytics, and how redirects are not cooperating, aka cool tip/bummer deal. Continue reading »

Website Web Site Web Page. It’s one of the reasons I started the Webmaster Wiki. I always said website, and my wife, whom used to be a technical writer, said web site. It’s what her style guide said, and who would argue with that. Typing the words web site a million times though, they just start blending together. It’s website, dang it. Continue reading »

As many of you know having content that creates interaction with visitors is a great way to go. You have probably read in many places that polls are one of the ways to do this. Polls are fairly easy to set up, users get to interact, and it can give additional value to your site. Are polls really that great for your site though? Looking at this sites analytics, polls are bad news.

A Little Google Analytics

Looking at this sites analytics I was initially looking to see how well a post does compared to my regularly posted material. Monday through Thursday I post my regular “Today’s Read”, and on Wednesday I start a new poll. Do visitors like the regular stuff more than the unique articles? I was about to find out. The title says it all here. Trying to reduce my sites overall bounce rate this month I found working on the homepage could be one of the biggest helpers. What did I do? I reduced the size of my introduction message, which brought the blog posts up. The end result? A 11.25% decrease in bounced visitors. Continue reading »
